A good account of race relations and race-based hucksterism. ( ) "You start out in 1954 by saying, EÂÂENigger, nigger, nigger.ÂEÂÂE By 1968 you canÂEÂÂEt say ÂEÂÂEniggerÂEÂÂEÂEÂÂEthat hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, statesÂEÂÂE rights, and all that stuff, and youÂEÂÂEre getting so abstract. Now, youÂEÂÂEre talking about cutting taxes, and all these things youÂEÂÂEre talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whitesÂE¦ ÂEÂÂEWe want to cut this,ÂEÂÂE is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than ÂEÂÂENigger, nigger."he American] voter, in my judgment, will be more likely to vote his economic interests than he will anything else. And that is the voter that I think through a fairly slow but very steady process, will go Republican [...] the real issues ultimately will be the economic issues [...] statistically, as the number of non-producers in the system moves toward fifty percent." -Lee Atwater, Republican Politician, Campaign Strategist for Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Died of a brain tumor in 1991. (Full audio of interview can be found here.) In this 41 minute interview, Lee Atwater, the ancestor of Boss Karl Rove, details the Republican campaign strategies as he saw them from the inside. His remarks are eerily prescient, even almost echoing Mitt Romney's 47% gaffe last year. (He got 47.2% of the vote, in another coincidence.) Now I am well aware Ann Coulter is unpleasant reading for anybody to the left of Joseph McCarthy. But only a brief summary of her hypothesis and the few chapters I skimmed were all consistently bad and physically revolting. After such repeated evidence to the contrary, after 95% of black voters went Democrat in 2012, 75% of Latinos, and 70% of Asians, after the racism of the Tea Party was beaten so soundly, how could you not realize that racial politics are now firmly slanted against the Republican policies, and that blaming the minorities in question is not a feasible way to gain votes? How the desperate claims of one pundit saying, "We're not racist," are drowned out by the masses of racist Tea Party furor? Could anyone explain to me how such persistent untruth is sold, how vast media enterprises have inundated large segments of the American people with this dreck, promising such big lies about history? Is it spite? Hatred? Fear? hhis nation changed forever inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Ann Coulter fearlessly explains the real history of race relations in this country, including how white liberals twist that history to spring the guilty, accuse the innocent, and engender racial hatreds, all in order to win politically. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
