Top Five Books of 2016 (290) Det finns inga diskussioner på LibraryThing om den här boken. More intrigue as secrets are revealed and Kip's skills evolve Really would be 1 star other than the excellent recap and appendix sections which are far more interesting than the actual book. Unfinished, barely edited, boring. The reveals either were obvious or WTF really? Also it just... ends. Of course I'll read the next one so here's to more $. This was.. interesting. It definitely has the feel of a "second in trilogy" kind of book, despite being the fourth in the series. Plots are advanced, some significant reveals occurs, but none of the outstanding conflicts--the war, Chromeria's internal politics, the assassins--are actually resolved. Despite that, I enjoyed it quite a lot. That the climax of the book is a domestic resolve rather than an epic battle is an unexpected turn, but it's such a moment of grace that I wouldn't have it any other way. Actual Rating 4.5 Stars Too words: Too much. Too much plot, too much worldbuilding, too much ideas, and most importantly, too many grand, world shaking revelations. Brent Weeks seems to believe that you can't have a boring status quo if you have a status quo at all. Seemingly on a timer, Weeks introduces some new character dynamic, or plot twist, or progression, laying all the previous ones to the wayside. Remember when the Colour Prince was the main villain? No wonder he needs an extra book. That's a problem, but I still gave this book four stars. The characters are for the most part rock solid, the worldbuilding is pretty good, and the whole series has at least been exciting. Just calm the hell down, Brent. I'm pretty much in the same boat as with the The Expanse books. I'll definitely read the rest, but with reservations. THE RANKING THUS FAR: tBP inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"The Seven Satrapies have collapsed into four-and those are falling before the White King's armies. Gavin Guile, ex-emperor, ex-Prism, ex-galley slave, formerly the one man who might have averted war, is now lost, broken, and trapped in a prison crafted by his own hands to hold a great magical genius. But Gavin has no magic at all. Worse, in this prison, Gavin may not be alone. Kip Guile will make a last, desperate attempt to stop the White King's growing horde. Karris White attempts to knit together an empire falling apart, helped only by her murderous and possibly treasonous father-in-law Andross Guile. Meanwhile, Teia's new talents will find a darker use-and the cost might be too much to bear. Together, they will fight to prevent a tainted empire from becoming something even worse"-- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |

This is a series that has constantly kept me guessing and has surprised me with every reveal. The character work is excellent and the stories are engrossing.
I hope the last book comes out soon! (
