The Ramp Festival at Sheriff Tony Abernathy’s family’s folk museum occurs during the peak of spring fever in tiny Park County, Tennessee, complete with music, food, crafts and homemade weapons launching vegetables at rubber duckies floating in a stock tank. I really enjoy this series and this book spends more time with husband and Sheriff Tony than with quilter, mom and business owner Theo. There is still a mystery quilt included in the book for the quilters who want to take up the challenge.

Jane and Martha, mother and aunt to Tony and his siblings, are having another big get together. This one is for "ramps" a vegetable that apparently smells like both onion and garlic and that most sensible people want kept far away from them. A couple of people are planning on putting on a show with ancient weapons, including a canon and a trebuchet. The weapons will be throwing vegetables, with the canon shooting potatoes. When the most hated man in town staggers out onto the field where the weapons are firing and collapses the owner of the canon thinks he killed him. Turns out it wasn't that straight forward. There is a sharpened stick stuck in his upper body and an unusual rash around his mouth. Final cause of death is put down to allergic reaction to walnuts..

Now Tony and his officers have to try and find out who hated "Rags" enough to kill him and how they managed it. While this is going on Tony is dealing with a group of men who are involved in a fire, one they set when they are breaking and entering a house. Add to that a missing bear named Baby and Tony is running in circles.

I will keep reading these books, I love the main characters and the setting which makes it fun to go back and visit with them again and again. ( )
