Okay, first, let me get this out of the way:

- The Curse of Superman
- Bulletproof
- Superman's New Secret Identity
- Return of the Forgotten Superman
- The Boy Who Stole Superman's Cape
- Vulnerable

Whoever is coming up with those crazy Silver Age titles for some of these stories (is it Morrison? it probably is), give 'em a raise.

In any case, this feels like it fulfills the promise of everything that Action Comics V1 suggested but didn't deliver on. Rags Morales is holding down the fort, and any switches to guest artists are not that noticeable. Sholly Fisch wisely steers a different course in the backup stories from Morrison's high weirdness, and Cully Hammer has a nice style that complements Morales on the main storyline.

There are some bits here and there I could do without - Morrison's little hints that the Big Bad is one of the Fifth Dimension people are way too hitting-the-reader-over-the-head in some places, and the one panel of the evil Superman apparently killing the miniature DC heroes feels REALLY unnecessary and shockingly out of place for the tone Morrison goes for and basically always gets -- but this is everything I wanted out of a Grant Morrison "early days of Superman" book. Although this second collection of the new Superman Action Comics still sports a cover byline for Grant Morrision and Rags Morales, the contents are the work of a larger mix of creators. Ben Oliver supplied art for some Morrison stories, and the writer-artist team of Scholly Fisch and Cully Hammer contributed pieces both in the main narrative plot-line and on Earth 23, where a black Superman has the "secret identity" of US President Calvin Ellis. Hammer's art reminds me pleasantly of that of Howard Chaykin.

There is less of a linear, serial plot in this collection, although the stories are all clearly tied together in a larger continuity. One of the most significant developments is the death of Clark Kent, as Superman sheds that persona in favor of the firefighter Johnny Clark. Although it becomes clear that this change is temporary, the status quo ante is not restored under this book's cover.

I might have it in me to read a third one of these volumes before my current interest in Superman wanes.

This is one of those books where it is really just a collection of comics. There is some continuity stuff, or maybe just its very unclear that a flashback is occurring.
I like this new 52 Superman and Lois Lane. Not quite sure about Jimmy Olsen yet. ( )

An ok follow up to volume 1 - I like how Morrison is already seeding in future plot points and the like. Reminded me of his JLA run in that regard. Definitely felt like I needed to read Justice League at a few points, will have to add that next. ( )
