India Knight described Alex Crawford as being in posession of "gigantic balls made of titanium", and after reading Colonel Gaddafi's Hat I would have to agree. Sure, any memoir is prone to a certain amount of self-aggrandisement and hyperbole, and Crawford doesn't entirely avoid it, but the basic details as recounted cannot be seriously doubted. Her retelling of events is also perhaps too basic, resulting in an oversimplistic account, but these are minor criticisms. As a whole this book offers a brief yet fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of the war correspondent, showing just how much hard work goes into producing that five-minute news report we pay so little attention to; but more importantly it also helps make explicit the evident barbarity of the Gaddafi regime's final death throes. This is both a gripping and deeply moving account of the Libyan uprising from the lone journalist who was able to report from the rebel army convoy that captured Green Square, in the heart of Tripoli. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
