This book was a great book jammed with loads of adventure. I'd recommend this book to all who like adventures and hockey. ( )

If you like hockey, history, and mysteries then this is the series for you. This combination may seem a little strange, but the author, Roy MacGregor, makes it all come together in an engaging read. This book contains good examples of sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendship. It also has examples of a self-centered player and a really bad team manager who is not what he appears to be.

This book was a wonderful addition to my collection of books for my student library. It hits two high-interest profiles with my students: both mystery, and sports. I know that this book will be ideal for some of my more reluctant readers. As a teacher, I love the detail and thought that the author put into fleshing out the story to make a well-rounded, entertaining story. ( )

A review for a boy:

I requested this book because my younger cousin loves hockey and getting him to read is like pulling teeth. After hounding him to read and finally getting a chance to read the book myself, I was really impressed. When I asked my cousin how he liked the book I got a standard "it was pretty good" which for a 10 year old pre-teen boy is as much as I was going to get. The fact that he read the book at all and finished it in less than a week really speaks more toward his enjoyment than his actual words.

Think Mighty Ducks meets a Hardy Boys Mystery. We look forward to other books in this series. ( )

Face-Off At the Alamo was a decent book for young readers. I think children would like the characters and action at the end of the book. I also liked the bits of history that was included in the story. As I read, however, I felt like parts of the story was left out or wasn’t addressed. I think the author could have developed the plot a little more thoroughly because I felt like it was a bit rushed. For a child, though, I think it would be an engaging read. ( )
