The suspense in this book is agonizing (in a good way)! If you've read the blurb, you already know that the main conflict is that Greg and Nicola discover after they've fallen deeply in love that they might be half-siblings. This doesn't happen until almost halfway through the book, however. So I spent the first half of the book waiting for them to get to that point and the second half agonizing right along with them while they waited for the DNA test results. Their emotional journey was written very well as they struggled through the possibility that this might be true and what it would mean for them if it was. I was drawn in right from the start and really felt myself caring about the characters and hoping things would end well for them. ( )

Story about a couple that meets, falls in love, but then has to face the unbelievable... that they may be half siblings. A little slow at times, but solid writing, and on the whole, enjoyable.

From the beginning of Nicola and Greg's relationship there were coincidences. They bore a physical resemblance to one another. Nicola shared a tomato allergy with Greg's mother, Mona. Only after the couple became engaged did Nicola meet Mona. They, too, resemble each other physically. When Mona learns Nicola was adopted she begins to suspect Nicola might be the daughter she gave birth to and gave up thirty-six years ago. Too Close, the novel by Elizabeth Krall, is a story of the unimaginable. Is it possible that Greg and Nicola have the same mother? Nicola and Mona agree to have DNA testing. Emotions run high for everyone during the excruciating wait for the results. Ever present is the question of what happens if the test results show the couple is related?

This is a story about a sensitive issue and the author tells it with grace and dignity. The characters are realistic. Their emotions, reactions and fears are clearly presented. This is a powerful novel in that the reader can't help but wondering "What would I do if I found myself in a similar situation?" As for what happens with Nicola and Greg- you'll have to read the book and I do recommend reading this book.

This starts out as a typical love story....until Nicola meets Greg's family, and learns she could possibly be his half-sister. His mother had a baby girl around the same time Nicola was born, in the same city, and never knew what happened to her.

As you can imagine, this causes complications for virtually everyone in the story. Greg and Nicola, of course, as well as Greg's mother, but also Nicola's adopted parents, and siblings of each of them, and their closest friends.

The strain of waiting for the DNA results was very well written. I could hardly wait to find out the answer myself. I must say that the entire situation was portrayed in what appears to be a very realistic manner. ( )
