In her counseling practice, Dr. McAvoy is familiar with the lop-sided client-therapist alliance. Assuming the role of expert causes an inequity of power between herself and her clients. Due to ethical concerns, there are beneficial limitations in the counseling relationship. Therapists, for example, are discouraged from having friendships with patients, and romantic relationships are prohibited. Necessary relationship boundaries help to protect clients from potential mistreatment and abuse.Unlike mental health counselors, Jesus doesn't have these same limitations. Since Jesus is, by his very nature, love, then he is able to perfectly cherish, encourage, and care for us. Our relationship with him goes beyond any human example of community or therapeutic alliance. He is the ultimate therapist, one without boundaries or limits. This devotional is the second in the Living Life 2 the Fullest series. In this study you will explore how Jesus is our Messiah, Lamb of God, kinsman-redeemer, friend, king and bridegroom. Similar to the first devotional, Bringing Hope and Healing, this study is six-weeks long. The format remains the same in that there are weekly topics accompanied by a meditation exercise and a corresponding musical playlist. Four days of daily devotionals expand on the weekly subject.Psychologically-oriented questions are also used throughout the study to aid you in examining your spiritual life and deepening your relationship with Christ.… (mer)

This book looks at the roles Jesus plays in our life, from the being the Ultimate Therapist, our Messiah, Our Kinsman-Redeemer, Our Friend, The Returning King, etc. It is a six week study with Bible verses that you can read for yourself plus song suggestions as well. There are also prayers for you to say. This is a book I will be re-reading.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, rather it be good or bad. ( )

This series has two books. Book 1 being Jesus, the Ultimate Therapist: Bringing Hope and Healing and Book 2 being Jesus, the Ultimate Therapist: Healing Without Limits.

Written by a Christian psychologist, this book series offers a new perspective to Bible study. What is most unique is the type of questions she includes. They focus on the reader quite a bit in an attempt to get the reader to evaluate their own relationship with the Lord based on that day’s particular topic. I know how important self awareness is as a leadership skill so I appreciated those questions.

These short devotionals are meant to be used for six weeks and are broken up into six sections with several days reading for each week. Each day’s reading has a scripture, the author’s commentary including real-life applications from some of her

clients (anonymously, of course), questions, a suggested prayer and optional Bible readings. Each week focuses on a different aspect of who Jesus is.

Since each day’s readings are short they are easy to incorporate into anyone’s busy life. But then if you need more, there are the optional readings and the weekly things to focus on, like the meditation exercises (which are my favorite part of each week’s lesson) and the modern Christian music playlist.

If you use these books as intended over a period of weeks, answer the questions, and do the meditations without rushing through it you will benefit the most from them. If you try to read straight through these books as a novel or a standard nonfiction non-devotional book you may not receive anything from them at all. I am confident that if you use them as intended you will receive some new revelation and emotional healing from God.

Not that the author intended her books to replace a human therapist completely, the books seem most suited to those who do need some emotional healing. Also helpful if you have never studied the various aspects of who Jesus is to you.

Have you been searching for a devotional that is written from a psychology point-of-view, yet remains Biblically grounded and written in plain language? Buy yourself a special journal and use it alongside Jesus, The Ultimate Therapist.
Kerry Kerr McAvoy uses her experience as a psychologist to help Christians, and those who may be searching, learn how to talk to Jesus and lean on Him to be their own personal therapist. This devotional is unique in the way that along with guided prayers and reflection questions, McAvoy has put together playlists as an additional way to connect with the Lord, knowing that music sometimes speaks louder than words. Each chapter includes opening questions, a meditation exercise, and the previously mentioned playlist. Within each chapter are four daily devotionals that include a key reading, guided prayer, and optional reading.
It is obvious that McAvoy knows what she’s talking about. She is well versed in the Bible and pulls from several different books and verses for each devotional. I am confident in recommending this book. It could very well change your life. ( )
