Can A.S. King do no wrong? I decided by the end of this collection that she is my favorite contemporary feminist. Favorites include the title story (particularly hilarious), "Can You See Lois Gardening?", "Leroy Can Tell You When," "Raul Shows Me Things," "Will Deirdre Beat the Odds?", and "The Tests I Failed." I also like "Butcher" a whole lot, but it kind of reminds me of an awful poem I wrote when I was 19. The only reason I give Monica Never Shuts Up 4 stars is that some of the stories seemed like they deserved to be flushed out, and it has now made me hungry for her to write full-fledged adult novels in addition to her YA ones. I hope my demands will keep King very, very busy for a very long time. :) (
