Just doesn't measure up compared to previous collection volumes. The first story is great. The second has so many plot flaws it's ridiculous. The rest are pretty so so; not as good as the first, not as bad as the second. ( ) These are all stories of Kzin-Human cohabitation. 1) Colebatch & Fox again, but a bit better done. However, if Fox keeps up like this she'll get a reputation for "feminine" takes on the war. I like happy endings, but this seems a bit too "fairy tale". 2) Harrington has an interesting plot line, but while I can't quite believe the tone of the story the rapid flow is refreshing. 3) Colebatch comes in with another "feel good" story of redemption a la self-destruction. 4) Matthew Harrington has a side-story here involving a Pak protector explaining the Puppeteers' role in initiating the Man-Kzin wars and the need for a few dead generals to clone. 5) & 6) are Colebatch again--the one to show us the future and the other to give us a moral excuse for murder. 7) Alex Hernandez introduces us to a new alien species, that is conveniently benevolent. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
"The perennially best-selling series set in Larry Niven's Man-Kzin universe continues with hard-hitting and thought-inducing tales from a host of talented contributors: Hal Colebatch, Matthew Joseph Harrington, Alex Hernandez, Jessica Q. Fox, and more. The catlike alien Kzin, formerly invincible conquerors of all they encountered, must learn to compromise with humans if they wish to survive and prosper once again as a species. Larry Niven's bestselling Man-Kzin series continues! The kzin, formerly invincible conquerors of all they encountered, had a hard time dealing with their ignominious defeat by the leaf-eating humans. Some secretly hatched schemes for a rematch, others concentrated on gathering power within the kzin hierarchy, and some shamefully cooperated with the contemptible humans, though often for hidden motives. In war and in uneasy peace, kzin and humans continue their adventures with a masterful addition to the Man-Kzin Wars shared universe created by multiple New York Times best-seller, incomparable tale-spinner, and Nebula- and five-time Hugo-Award-winner, Larry Niven. About the Man-Kzin War Series: '[The Man-Kzin Wars series is] excellent gripping and expands well on Larry Niven's universe.'" -- Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
