In "State Secrets" a cookbook author distantly related to the President-Elect is shadowed by a secret service agent after she comes under suspicion of being a threat to her cousin. "The Five Days of Christmas" is shorter and less memorable yet. Mercenary Colt Hamlin is suffering from PTSD, but a plot by Morgan Trayhern's wife lures him out of his misery and hooks him up with a local teacher, just in time for the annual gift-giving. THE FIVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS by Lindsay McKenna should have worked for me, and might have had it been longer or had I read any of the rest of the series. As a standalone, however, the romance seems forced and rushed.
