I'm A Frog by Mo Willems is about Piggie taking on a new identity and teaching his best friend, Gerald the Elephant about pretending. (And how adults do it too ;) ) Elephant and Piggie is one of my favorite series to read with little kids. When I taught second grade, my students LOVED them. ( )

Piggie's wink on the cover below the title says it all - this is a game of pretend, with Gerald predictably confused...but he soon joins in on the joke in his own way.

This one has inspired a LOT of hopping and ribbiting and an appreciation for a certain type of joke.

Peggie teaches young children that they can be whatever they want to be if they use their imagination. At first, Piggie’s friend Gerald refuses to let his mind be free to explore his creativity. Sure enough he finally comes around and learns something new. Mo Willems makes reading fun to do when the words are short and simple to understand. ( )

Piggie teaches Gerald that he can be whatever he wants, and that it is fun to pretend.
