This eighth volume is, as expected , focused on Myst as well as the ever approaching final war. The tension increases noticeably and the emotional stress has all kinds of repercussions. Not only for the eight mates, who almost tear each other and their bond apart, but also for their ‘houseguests’, the wolf shifter, other demon and even the two friendly vampires. The buildup in terms of tension, developing plot line and partial revelations is well done and kept me on the edge of my proverbial seat. I wanted to know what’s going on before this, but now I REALLY want to know. I bet this is just were Gabrielle Evans wants her readers at this stage. Well done for succeeding, at least in my case.

Myst has some severe emotional problems and hang-ups. He was always a bit of a clown and often in the background in previous volumes, but he really comes into his own in this book. There are some surprises, some major fuck-ups and lots of make-up sex on the way, but the struggle he faces is a tough one and remains unresolved almost until the final page.

Echo and the other mates learn a lot about Myst but they also make some progress in terms of overall group dynamics. Eight men in one huge menage are as challenging as ever, but the twists and turns in this book are somehow more intense than before. I was able to ‘feel’ the approaching battle, not just see it from what happened.

If you’ve never read one of the Fatefully Yours books maybe it is time you did – but start with the first one, because they really are best read in sequence. The buildup is well done, and now that the last volume is in sight, at least you won’t have to wait very long for the conclusion. ( )
