Concept book-

All of the children in the book were upset. They were able to figure out different ways to use their action for good instead of being mean. This helped them to not get into trouble when they were feeling upset.

I think this is a good book to read to small children. It identifies emotions and how they made you feel. It then would show the alternatives to not do the wrong thing which is always good. It focuses more on alternatives than punishments. I think that is something that would better benefit very young children who don't always know better.

This is the simplest yet most affective book I have read in a while. It has many dimensions that even the youngest read or listener can learn from. You open the page and it says for example,"I'm mad! I want to hit my baby brother." the page next to it shows an illustration of an angry child and at the bottom says, "That's not okay, but I can..." This page has a flap that lifts and shows the child choosing something else to express their emotions and this pages resolution was, "hit some pots and pans. BANG BANG BANG!" Each page shows things that any child would do out of anger and how to direct that engird into doing something else that isn't proper behavior. It is perfect for young students that cannot read yet and could see the pictures. It would be a book where if a child is acting up recently they could be read the book and taught to be nice. ( )

Great book to teach little ones about how to deal with anger behavior, and look for some alternatives instead of hitting.

The theme of the book is "I'm mad! I want to ____. It's not okay to ____, but I can _____." You lift the flap to see what you can do. This is an incredibly useful concept; it gets across the idea that you can be mad and want to do something, but do something else instead. Some of the substitutions strike me as odd (I want to stick out my tongue at my mother, but I can lick a popsicle... yeah, 'cause I'm going to be handing out the popsicles while we're arguing?) but most of them are reasonable alternatives.
