In the beginning, the Great Maker creates a world of natural beauty filled with plants and animals. Soon, greedy people destroy the beauty of the natural world so they can build cities of great buildings. The Great Maker intervenes when he leads a small child to a seed, which she plants and soon a mighty tree grows that reaches all the way to heaven.

Summary: This story talks about the beginning of time, when the Great Maker created a beautiful world full of plants and animals that thrived, as well as people who the Great Maker charged to care for the world. However, it then shows the unsatisfiable greed of people and how over time they demolished the land and all the natural beauty of the plants and animals in favor of wanting huge buildings of luxury. One girl cries in the face of this devastated world, and she hears the voice of the Great Maker telling her to go find a seed and plant it. She does in a ditch where it will be safe, and over time it grows into a huge tree, strong and bigger than any palace and providing refuge for all the animals and birds around. It reached up into Heaven so that anyone who climbed it could enter into the paradise of the Great Maker's garden.
Genre Critique: This is an example of a legend in that it is a narrative telling the history of creation and human's devastating impact on the natural world. It reaffirms the values and beliefs of those in the Christian world who believe in God and that He created the world and is at work in it and the lives of those on it.
Plot: This story follows the typical rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, which is good because it presents a devastating problem facing the world, but it ends on a happy note that gives hope to readers.

Review—

Genre- Fantasy. Even though this book is a figurative book it is more so a book about fantasy. The child hears a voice on the wind (God’s voice) and then talks with a seed that she finds. Seeds do not talk nor does the wind however there is a principal that the book displays that is more important. This text is about taking care of what is on this earth rather than what is more comfortable for us.
