I felt I was on a week’s holiday by the coast. The characters were interesting. My only quibble with the book was that I thought the ending was very rushed. Some of the early parts of the story could of been edited to give a better paced ending. ( ) This was the first Carole Matthews book I have read and I was surprised at how easily I slipped into it. The characters were well written, and the scenario was well thought out and plotted nicely. Was it totally believable? Well, I can see why Grace acted how she did, and why Art's actions were not wholly unexpected at the end. All characters acted in a human way (if you can understand what I mean!). The love at first sight element is believable too - I knew I had found my man and I hadn't even spoken to him, and we are still together nearly 30 years later so it can happen! Not a romance, not a rom com, but still classed as chick lit, it was different enough to lift it above some of it's contemporaries on the shelf. Grace, Ella and Flick have been best friends since university. Now in their thirties, they get together with their partners at a cottage in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. Grace hopes the holiday will help her reconnect with her husband, Harry. Ella has some news to share with her partner Art, but doesn't know how to tell him, and bubbly Flick has brought along her latest boyfriend, Noah, as she tires to settle down and stop having affairs with married men. But as the week progresses, secrets begin to unravel that will test the strength of their friendship. Good light holiday read. Grace, Ella and Flick have known each other since they went to school together. Over the years they kept in touch but have not seen each other as often as they would have liked. Now that Ella’s mother passed away and Ella inherited Cwtch Cottage, she has invited her old friends. They all meet again for a relaxed week away at Cwtch Cottage with their respective partners. Soon it becomes clear that nobody’s life is perfect and everyone has problems one way or another. Grace for instance has serious relationship problems with her husband with whom she feels estranged and who has been drinking too much for some time now. Then she meets Noah and from the second he tells her the sea is beautiful she feels love at first sight. But this wonderful stranger turns out to be Flick’s new partner. It does not help that she keeps finding herself alone with him and they keep spending time together because the more they do, the more she feels they are two souls alike. What is she to do? Fight for her marriage or give in to this feeling and risk destroying a friendship with one of her best friends and her marriage along the way? This book makes a perfect summer read. It's all very light although everybody has real-life problems and even topics as abortion and raising a child as a single mom etc. are broached. The story has a nice flow and I could identify with the characters. I guess I saw some of it coming but it didn't bother me at all for once. Really well done, looking forward to reading her next book too inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
