Inspired by the finding of the footprint of an 8-year-old child in a cave in southern France, the author uses ancient cave paintings to reimagine the discovery of drawing.

"Imagine...you were born before the invention of drawing," starts the book off with a bang. It brings you back thirty thousand years ago to show you what life was like. In a cave, you sleep with your entire family, but all you can see is the shadows making the shapes of animals and your imagination soaring. Trying to make his family see, he starts drawing and his imagination comes alive, the first cave drawing that's what started it all. ( )

The author guides the reader through the question "What if you were the first person to draw a picture?" The author tells the story of a young child who sees animal shapes in the clouds, rocks, and cave walls around him. The main character is misunderstood by his family until he draws a picture to show his family what he sees inside of his head. His family ends up with an expanded imagination while the main character ends up as the first person to draw a picture.

This is a good example of a fantasy book because it is about someone using their imagination to think of what it would be like to have lived in the caveman era and be the first person to discover drawing. This is not a real story that happened and the boundary between real life and imagination are clear.

This book is about a little boy that sees images/ pictures in everything he does, but no one else can see them.Fed up with this he draws on the cave wall with "magic" to show everyone what he sees. This is how drawing is born. ( )
