This book came recommended highly, and the author won a couple of awards for this book, but it did not work for me at all. Way too much jumping around, lots of characters and situations described but I never knew who was related to who or why they were part of the story only to find later that they didn’t seem to have any bearing on the actual story, and worst of all ridiculously short chapters so that there was never enough development of what was going on. I gave up half way through.
As I said before the author won “best Irish crime novel for this book but for the life of me I don’t see how. (

This is a strong psychological thriller. I almost put the book aside about 25% of the way in because it was so confusing - it seemed as if every chapter was being told from a different POV, without warning and often with little orientation. I'm very glad I stuck with it, because gradually I was able to shift into the POV without difficulty and understand it was part of the whole taut story.

This isn't a happy novel, but it was very well written and I have put the next in the series, Last Kiss, in my 'to read' folder.

Violence - quite a bit, but not as much gore as most thrillers.
Romance and/or sex - really none
Strong language - yes, although it certainly didn't get in the way of the story being told.

Definitely a hard book to put down once you get into it, and a bit haunting after it's completed.

Oh - the story takes place in Dublin, so there was some slang I didn't know (but again, didn't get in the way too much) (

Louise's second novel is as good as her debut, Red Ribbons. A psychological thriller one can not put down and it ends with a twist. another brilliant read (

Louise Phillips definitely knows how to surprise. I don’t know where does she gets her ideas for the books but I hope there’re enough of them for hundredth and thousandth books more.=) (
