Maybe it's just me, but the whole face-off with Gentry's equally-as-skilled opponent didn't go over as well with me, to be honest. Everyone else on here seemed to love it, but I find it hard to believe that someone as whackjob nuts could maintain the same level of expertise.

This is the standard comic book movie trope. We've seen it in the first Iron Man movie, as well as Hulk, Winter Soldier, Black Panther...you get the idea. Pit two opponents who are equally matched against each other, because it raises the stakes that the wrong one will win.

Obviously, never any doubt in any of these examples who the victor would be, and it was the same here. But his plot was so convoluted and hinged on so many "hope this happens so that can happen" moments, that it just didn't work for me.

Regardless, still not a bad book, by any means, just...not quite as enjoyable as the first three. ( )

Prepare for your brain to overheat as it struggles with credulity. A book attempting to follow in the footsteps of the techno-thriller, where technical specifications of weaponry become part of the plot and must appeal to those lusting after gun brands. Our hero manages to lug multiple heavy weapons, in secret, around a heavily guarded air base, align them all to shoot specific individuals, who presumably don't move while he's lining up the other guns then shoots up a plane while it's rolling up the runway to take off, leaping on board and flying it (the cockpit has been shot up but I guess all the heavy bullets didn't damage any of the controls and just killed the pilots), then leaping out of the planes with a small parachute while other bombs are exploding around the airport he had placed earlier. Whew. I mean, I like Mission Impossible, but I suspect if Tom Cruise did this in any movie there would be guffaws in the theater.

Listened as an audiobook and in spite (or perhaps because) of my guffaws it made OK listening while making the bed, doing the dishes, sweeping the floor, etc. ( )

Dead Eye is the 4 book in the Gray Man novels. Dead Eye follows Court Gentry's journey to survive after he has been on the run from the US for 5 years. After Court kills Gregor Sidorenko, he discovers that there is another agency trying to kill him. Court soon discovers there is another person just like him codenamed Dead Eye. Dead Eye is another former CIA killer just like Court. Now Dead Eye is an assassin for hire who is trying to get Court to do his final plan. Court has to be even more cautious.

Dead Eye's real name is Russel Whitlock. Whitlock is so similar to Court they both think Similarly. It introduces an American Mossad agent named Ruth Etinger who's job to discover likely terrorist who plans to kill Isreal's Prime Minister. Ruth helps Court after Whitlock's plan to kill Isreal's PM. They both try to stop Whitlock. The book is bleak on how casual it is with Whitlock being such a cold blooded killer and how he takes Adderall just to help him concentrate on killing. Court is generally in uninteresting and Whitlock is very colorful.

Just when you may have lost hope, it gets better. Get them all, read them all then cry when you read the last page of this installment. Definitely worth the read. ( )
