I love this book, It shows children the importance of having good friends. In this story, Emma has trouble to read in front of her peers, but her friend comes over and motivates her to don't be so shy. Many children may relate to this story and make connections to their own life. I would use this book as a text connections strategy to use with my kindergarteners and first graders.

Emma and Sally both have their own problems, Sally is new to the neighborhood and doesn't have any friends and Emma is really nervous to read out loud in class. Emma quickly befriends Sally when she finds out they have the same boots, and Sally is able to help Emma get over her fear of reading to the class.
