This series of fourteen lectures from Barnes & Noble take listeners from 1200 B.C. to 476 A.D. The content is basic but quite entertaining. The professor has a very engaging non-academic style. For historians, it might seem too simplistic, but I think one must consider the intended audience.

The accompanying booklet outlines each lecture and adds supplemental material, including pictures and maps. At the end of each lecture section, there is a page providing suggested readings “For Greater Understanding.” We have both read a lot of history of this era, but we still liked listening to Professor Titchener, who has received many well-deserved awards for teaching excellence.
