How to make Celtic knotwork as knitting cables, plus patterns. ( )

Love all the patterns in this collection, plus there are lots of historical examples and history of the motifs. I bought the book as a birthday gift for a knitting friend, but I read through it first and I'm knitting up swatches of the various cable designs. I'm going to have to borrow it back to make at least one of the sweater patterns too! I think I took a class from the author at Stitches several years ago, I recognized her technique for creating cable patterns that don't distort the width of the finished piece by increasing the cable stitches out of the background when the pattern starts and decreasing them out at the end.
