One reason I liked this book was because of the illustrations. They were simple, but to the point, and they also crossed over onto both pages. For an example, for the poem 'The Flea' the raccoon’s body is on the left side of the page, but its tail is drawn across the right side of the page where the flea is located. I also like that pictures are meant to be the main focus because they tell the story itself without the poems. Another reason I liked this book was because of the poems themselves. They were super cute and rhymed perfectly. For example, "Take my advice Avoid all lice. They simply are Not very nice." It's quick and to the point. I think the big idea of this book is to learn about different types of bugs and where they can be found because at the end of the book there is a definition page for all the bugs that were said throughout the book. ( ) I loved this poetry book because it was informative about insects but it was also humorous. I liked the illustrations because they depicted the insect but they were funny. For example in "The Flea" the illustration is of a dog getting bit by a flea which is funny because it looks like the dog is screaming. I also liked the language because most of the poems rhymed and it was simple to read while explaining real facts about insects. For example, in "The Tick" there are only 4 lines in the poem but it teaches you that ticks can make you sick. The main idea of this book was to teach the reader about insects. Insect Soup by author Barry Louis. He is a three time Parents Choice Award Winner. This is a hardcover book which has funny and charming illustrations. Many young children would love and like to look at this book. This book has many poems describing the insects and definitions for each one of them.A book all ages could love and interact with.A good book to teach poems to young children and make reading and listening time fun. Also a good book to do a project about bugs with the children. In my opinion this is a satisfactory book. The author uses descriptive, beautiful illustrations to accompany the text to further the reader’s view of the bugs. Because of the limited nature of the children’s rhyming text, the author uses the pictures in order to help the reader create a picture of what the bug looks like. My favorite illustration is the one with the butterfly. Usually, butterflies especially when drawn for children’s books are very beautiful; however, the author takes a more realistic approach when drawing this butterfly. He accompanies the picture with the text, “She got her wish in time of course. (A wish she did regret). She turned into a butterfly, Then flew into a net.” Despite the author’s vivid illustrations, I feel as the writing relied too heavily on the rhyming pattern. Because of the author’s choice to rhyme in an ABCDC pattern, or of some variation of it, I felt as if the author was reaching for words that rhymed although they didn’t add to the text or make complete sense. For example, when the author is describing the Chiggers the last four lines read “ And at your seat will start to eat. Poor or rich you still will itch.” I feel in this line the author was desperately grasping at a word that rhymed with itch; however in the context of the story. It didn’t add or relate to what the author was saying previously. Overall, the big idea of this story is to inform the reader of various types of bugs in a fun way through rhyming and exaggerated illustrations. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
