This book is about how the wicked king chooses Danae to be his new wife and her son Perseus isn't too pleased. But the king promises that if Perseus can kill the Medusa, he won't marry Danae. Perseus goes on his journey and none have succeed to kill her. But, he succeeds and Pegasus is sent down to him as a prize or something. His mother doesn't have to marry the king and Danae and Perseus live happily.

This book is an ok example of Myth. It is a re-telling of the story of Medusa, Pegasus, and Perseus. I have a feeling that the original was better. The story it not taken very seriously and the author even uses the words "Peek-a-boo" in the story. It is clearly a myth however because it includes the elements of supernatural beings, like the Greek Gods. It demonstrates the beliefs of another a culture, such as Gods and mythological creatures. The story has the potential to be gruesome, such as the beheading of Medusa, so it fits the criteria.

The style of this book was very poor in my opinion. The story was made into a joke and I have never viewed mythology this way before. When the author came to life, the animals said "Bow, wow" and "Oink." Medusa ran around playing peek-a-boo. I thought none of this fit the book well. The insincerity of the book even made me question the story and it's honesty.

I love greek mythology! This book gives children a glimpse of what pegasus is all about and what happen. It will teach students that if you are not good, then goodness will come to you.

Classroom connections: Students studying Greek Mythology will enjoy this brightly colored book and its Greek chorus (the owls along the bottom of the pages). Also students who have read Rick Riordan's "The Lighting Thief" will be interested in the story of Perseus.
