Hayley is a grief stricken fifth grader who has recently lost her father. Her mother and siblings are also dealing with the loss. Hayley decides she has to do something to "fix" her family and decides her mother needs a new husband and that she and her siblings need a new father.Hayley finds an ad about a "matchmaker" and decides that is the answer for their family. This story is fiction and it often requires quite a suspension of belief. Sometimes it seemed like I'd missed a section, but I hadn't, the story doesn't always flow very well. It's a quick summer time read. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. Nice little predictable story about a ten year old tryng to right the ship in her household after losing her father........Playing matchmaker for her mother can be a little daunting for the child...some nice humor...... Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. Well, not sure where to begin. The inconsistent, choppy writing; the improbable overall plot; the incredulous scenes in the book. I'm not sure what the point of this book was. Not only was it not written well, but most of it is simply unbelievable. I'm all for suspending reality for a bit but this book goes way beyond that.I'm trying to figure out how a 10-year-old girl can worm her way into the office of a DC attorney; have him fall in love with her, her siblings and her widowed mother in a matter of days; have the attorney introduce her mother to his largest client, who also happens to be supremely rich and of royal blood; have that same rich royal client fall in love with her mother in a matter of minutes; have both the attorney and the rich client vying for the mother's affections; and all this after the woman was recently widowed. Not to mention the ridiculous plot points of having this same rich client invite Hayley and her whole family on a week's cruise on his yacht during spring break to Virginia Beach without even KNOWING him, and the even more outrageous scene in which Hayley falls into a BEAR PIT AT THE NATIONAL ZOO!!! Now, as someone who has spent much time at the National Zoo, not only is this improbable, but the way she is rescued is absolutely ridiculous. The premise of this book is just utterly unbelievable on so many levels. I just can't recommend this to anyone. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. wow find this a bit lack luster and the ending was rushed Im sorry but could have been a much better book and the charecters could have been a bit more interesting . sorry but it was really just a light summer read and I expected a whole lot more .inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
We never know how God may lead us. The twists and turns of life often leave us confused and deflated. For 10-year-old Haley, the unexpected loss of her father was such a twist. When all is lost, a little light in the darkness can make all the difference. The world is a big place for a little girl. For that matter, it's a pretty big place for anyone who has lost their way. Hayley finds her solution in a modern day prince, but she can't pull off this miracle by herself. Nick, an attorney struggling to save his job, wouldn't seem to be much help to a little girl trying to create a miracle. But life has a way of bringing us the people we need most, at just the right time. Still, there is so much that could go wrong, especially when her headstrong mother doesn't fall for the prince. But there's something Hayley doesn't see coming, something she can't see. Something she doesn't want to see, something that hides in the dark where she can't go, something unspeakable. Follow Haley's journey into the light and see how redemption is there for anyone, even the condemned. And see how love can find you-even through the darkness. This is a short, sweet story that shows a child's determination to get her family back to "normal". Sadly, her normal may not be attainable. Haley ends up skipping out of school and traveling through the city alone on a bus, navigating streets, office buildings, and bus stops. I found this a little difficult to grasp. As the mom of a nearly 10-year-old, I don't think my daughter would be able to concoct this type of elaborate plan along with navigating the city by herself. I think if Hayley would have been twelve or thirteen, it would have been a bit more believable. Her voice and actions in the story didn't match up with her age for me.
But, this story is fiction and that means it doesn't necessarily have to meet up with reality. The princely character of Sir John and his romance with Jess, Haley's mom, will remind you of fairy tales. There are diversions, mishaps, and complications that hamper Haley's master plan. You definitely have hope for a happy outcome and I was satisfied with the ending.
Overall, if you are looking for a quick read that will put you in a good mood, FINDING DADDY WARBUCKS will accomplish that. This book could be enjoyed by YA fans as well as those who like adult or women's fiction. Haley's story will teach us to believe in our dreams, but that our dreams may not always happen exactly the way we planned. ( )
