In the first Broslin Creek novel, Kate Bridges is the only person who can identify the number one person on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, so that man is determined to find and kill her. She only stays in one place for a few months at a time, and she’s currently renting a house from someone who doesn’t own it. When the real owner unexpectedly returns home, she’s knows she’s in trouble.
After an eight-month deployment in Afghanistan, US Army Reserves officer Murph Dolan returns home injured (physically and mentally) and only wants to get back to his old life. When he finds a sexy redhead asleep in his bed, he thinks she’s a welcome home present, at least until she starts screaming and pulls a gun on him. As it turns out, his brother rented the house to her. Murph can tell she’s in trouble—he’s a former cop and his instincts are on high alert—but he can’t help her unless she confides in him.
Kate and Murph are wonderful characters. Kate has lived a hard life growing up in foster care, but she lucked out with her wonderful adoptive family. She’s a tough, smart woman who’s had to make some tough choices to keep her family safe. Murph had a rough childhood, too, but he fared better than Kate did. He has PTSD and serious guilt about his friends and comrades dying overseas, which he thinks is his fault. They’re both broken people, but their trust in one another helps them heal.
This is a really good book. There are a lot of twists and turns, but I did guess who the villain was right away. Still, I enjoyed the way Kate and Murph tried to uncover the identity of the second assassin and how to trap him.
The ending of the book surprised me. There’s a HEA, but there’s also a loose end. I’m hoping this will be tied up in the next book, but I don’t think it will be due to certain things happening in this story, which I don’t want to spoil for readers.
Overall, I liked the book and will check out more books in the series.

OH. MY GOODNESS!! I was captivated with the FIRST chapter and I was glad that I had my seat belt on as Deathwatch just EXPOLADED and I found myself running alongside of Kate who was running for her life when she saw the assassin's face who killed her friend AND NOW HE WANTED HER DEAD TOO! I liked, Murphy Dolan, Army reserves and wounded in the Afghanistan war after serving an eight month tour that left him with nightmares he was sure that he would never get over. He was a cop in the little of Broslin Creek, and at two AM all he wanted to do was sleep in the home that he was restoring. ( )

Plenty of action and suspense in this introduction to the Broslin Creek series.

Right from the start the author pulls you into an intriguing story. The heroine, Kat Bridges is watching her own funeral from a surveillance van in hopes the assassin who killed her friend and who she saw will show up so the FBI can apprehend him. Needless to say this doesn’t go well. Many explosions later Kat decides to make a run for it on her own realizing the FBI couldn’t protect her and it would keep her family safe.

Murphy Dolan is a police officer in Broslin Creek. He is just returning home from Afghanistan injured after losing his whole team on a mission gone bad. All he wants to do is get back to normal and get his body back in shape so he can start back at his job as a police officer. What he didn’t expect to find in his home was a woman asleep in his bed claiming she had a lease to be there.

Kat and Murphy tragic pasts made these two compelling to read. Kat had been in foster care for almost all of her childhood. She had been an angry child with violent tendencies before she was adopted by a loving couple that turned her around and then as an adult to want to help other children who were going through what she did. Murphy didn’t have a good childhood either but he decided he was going to not be a statistic and fought on the good side of the law and in the service until the tragic incident that killed his men and left him with a huge hole in his heart and suffering from anxiety and PTSD. I've never seen to people more perfect for each other in so many ways.

In a suspense book the author always leaves us clues as to who the bad guy is. You try and figure it out before the end and shout with glee when you are right. Well I have to say the author did a fabulous job of keeping you guessing till the very end in this one.

On a side note even though this is the 3rd book based on release date it’s really the first book in the series. So if you haven’t read the series yet this book is where you should start. If you have read the other two books then you get a glimpse of how Captain Bing was just weeks after his wife’s death and seeing when Jack first came to town.

Ok story, seemed to drag some, and the suspense angle was rather light, had a limited hold on my attention, I didn't feel vested in this story.

If this was my first read in the series it would not have created enough interest for me to continue with the series, but since I have read the books out of order, I figured I should read them all, and get the complete picture.

Nothing really stands out for me. The H/h characters have some back story, but their connection and chemistry as a couple, is not smoldering or convincing. The secondary characters are rather thin and I see them as glue to fill in the story gaps.

The book actually has two story lines and both are wrapped up rather quickly once the book gets to that point, very little info/backstory on the characters that play in the bank robbery thread.

As far as a rating - would have to say its a 2.75-3 star read for me ( )

A perceptive tale of two survivors trying to take care of each other.

DESCRIPTION: Murphy Dolan is returning to his small-town cop job from his 2nd tour of duty with the Army Reserves, only to find a stranger hiding in his house. Kate Bridges is running for her life--the only person who can identify the most notorious hit man in the country. She's scared spitless. He's completely burned-out on violence. Neither of them has any trust left to give. ( )
