Despite growing interest, basic information on methods and models for mathematically analyzing algorithms has rarely been directly accessible to practitioners, researchers, or students. I have several books by Sedgewick. Long ago, I loaned out my copy of Algorithms in C++ (never fear, I had the first, and also one in C), and never saw it again. That was the last book I ever loaned out. This book, on how to analyze algorithms, is a thing of beauty, and I enjoy reading it for the pleasure of it.

From the foreword (yes, by THAT D. Knuth): "People who analyze algorithms have double happiness. First of all they experience the sheer beauty of elegant mathematical patterns that surround elegant computational procedures. Then the receive a practical payoff when their theories make it possible to get other jobs done more quickly and more economically."

I couldn't say it better than that. ( )
