Author Jeff Powell wakes up to find the impossible has happened. He is within his own novel-summoned into the fictional world of Feldall's Keep by a spell he didn't write. One the House enchantress hasn't figured out how to reverse. When the villain he's been struggling to write reveals himself, unleashing waves of terror and chaos, Jeff must use more than his imagination to save the characters he created-and the woman he loves. Trapped within a world of his own creation, he must step outside the bounds of his narrative to help his characters defeat an evil no one anticipated, even if he must sacrifice his greatest gift. In the end, he has to ask: are novels really fiction, or windows into other worlds?… (mer)

A thoroughly enjoyable read. I loved how the author poked fun at the sword fantasy genre and the types of male authors who still delight in writing busty female warriors and grunty male warriors. However, this particular author is about to be taught a lesson. I enjoyed watching him change from arrogant 'god' to helpless wimp then to someone who bordered on heroic. His inability to be comfortable around women in real-life becomes a thorn in his side in his fictional world. The depth of his characters is far greater than he imagined, and he is at their mercy. I wanted to start the next book in a trilogy straight after finishing this - always a good sign. ( )

Interesting angle

This is certainly a brilliant idea--an author being pulled into his own novel. I will even admit, the ending surprised me. Leaves you hanging. That said, I didn't really connect with the main character--the author. I sort of felt disconnected, not knowing which world--the fantasy world the author was writing and the world he was from--to invest in. Because Jeff was the protagonist, I couldn't connect to the other characters. They felt temporary to me. And Jeff took so long to believe that he had fallen into his world that it got old. The story finally grabbed me mid way when a certain twist happens. The man character finally gets some balls and the story finally progresses. By the end of the novel, I was curious enough to want to read the second one, but not strong enough to weed my way through the slow moments. The novel had a lot of telling scenes where things were just explained. The Sisters were fascinating, though not consistent characters. But I think that's who they are. Lots of magical elements. Otherworldly creatures. An evil villain. Violence. Swearing. Dragon. I must say, my favorite character is Jayden. Really about 3.5 stars. Great idea, just not my cup of tea. I'm sure other readers will love this. ( )

I really enjoyed this book. I have read other books where authors/creators visited their own worlds. This one has great character development and some grand adventures. I won't say that I really liked the protagonist by the end, but he was on the right track. I am looking forward to book two where I hope that we really learn more about the other characters. ( )
