Review: No Time To Die by Kira Peikoff.

This was a good medical research thriller that was hard to put down. It was well written and possessed great developed characters. It’s also another aging gene mystery that makes it a fast pace read. There’s a lot of that subject going around lately, I guess when one author writes about it they all follow but it was an interesting book. A great story that may someday come true…..

The story begins with a pattern of missing biochemist, highly educated medical specialist in certain areas of advance medical research, and some patients with rare diseases that are being researched for a cure. They have just disappeared off the face of the earth. There is one detective, Les Mahler, that believes he knows who has been behind it all and continues to hunt the group called “The Network” which he states is a cult of medical science researchers brought together to work in labs following no protocols, rules or law of ethics to research rare diseases as cancer, organ diseases, etc and most of all the aging process of human beings and the leader’s name is Galileo.

As the story begins there is also a young woman, Zoe who is twenty years old who was going to college but dropped out when she was humiliated because of her size and felt she didn’t fit in. She has an illness of showing no sign of growth beyond fourteen years old, an extremely rare genetic mutation and she is stressed to the max and determined to find out what it consist of and if there could be anything done or is she dying. Soon she finds a doctor that is willing to run some test to reassure her that she is not dying and can tell her what is wrong. The problem she has is that her parents don’t offer any support and hinders every path that she researches on her own about her medical condition. They show no concern or understanding what her situation has come to. If it wasn’t for her grandfather that was living with her family she would be alone. They were very close and he listened to his granddaughter and tried to help her the best way he knew how behind her parents back. After certain issues came up he was asked to leave their home, so he did and now he is on the missing list, abandon by his daughter and son-in law who chooses to not look for him…

Zoe finally gets answers to what she wanted to know. She is not dying but what she finds out is startling. There was no cure and her mind and body would never go beyond fourteen years of age. Things at home went into chaos as Zoe tries to locate anyone who has done research in that area of aging. This is where Zoe is introduced to, “The Network”. The author weaves these two stories together and provides good understanding of medical procedures, the emotions and thought process of a young girl who wants to get past puberty, creating the parents viewpoints and frustrations, an elderly man who wants to live out his life normally with his granddaughter, and many medical scientist who want to make a difference in the medical field, the thoughts of an obsessed mentally ill detective committing crimes throughout the story, and one heartbroken man who is to late to help his own daughter when he put together, “The Network”….. I received this book as part of Goodreads First Reads Giveaway.

This has to be one of the best books I've ever read. Throughout the whole book I couldn't wait to keep reading more...more...A completely different mystery/thriller, very well written and exciting. So glad I was able to read an author I never heard of and it turns out to be great. Can't wait to read more from this author. ( )

Suppose you find out that you had stopped aging when you were 14 years old. Well, of course, you just want to grow up but everyone around you sees you as the fountain of youth. Would go on the run with renegade scientists? Well that's what our heroine does in this story. It is actually a pretty good story with some nice twists that leave you wondering who the good guys are. It really does take a stretch of the imagination and I had to say, Well,uh, OK, to a lot of things. But it moves at a good pace and there were some good characters in the story. I understand there is going to be another book. I will probably read it to see where the story is going. ( )

I read this book a while ago. I have had the book staring at me the whole time since I have put it down to write a review. I struggled to write this review for some reason. Not because I did not like the book but because I was only middle of the road with the book. Which sadden me. I was really looking forward to this book. The characters just did not grab me as much as I had hoped. Thus even though the science featured in this book was really good, it does not mean anything for the characters are not engaging. So I felt more like I was just reading the book to read it but nothing that was happening in the story really sunk in and was memorable. ( )

I received a free copy of this book from Meryl L. Moss Media in exchange for an honest review. It in no way changed my opinion.
This book is suspenseful fiction. I was pleasantly surprised with this book, it is so much more than just a suspenseful novel. It has aspects of so many genres I love and blends them together perfectly. With several main characters ranging in age, the author was able to tell a story through different views that effortlessly comes together as a whole. Even if you think a suspense story is not for you, you would likely be surprised to find something you liked and could connect to in this novel.
It was a thrill ride reading this book and I did not want to put it down. I read it in a weekend even though it is over 400 pages long. It kept me up late reading because I just had to know what happened next. I was surprised to find a little romance and young adult in here. The YA comes through regularly because of one of the main characters, Zoe, who is a young adult. The author’s writing perfectly captures a YA voice in Zoe. A lot of science happens in this novel and I thought that may lose my attention, but the author does not expect the reader to be a scientist and explains things with an ease that made it understandable to even me and wove it perfectly into the storyline. There are several shocking moments that genuinely surprised me, but also fit perfectly with the story as a whole.
Life, death and aging are discussed throughout this novel and this work of fiction made me question my own real life thoughts on aging and death. It is rare that a work of fiction can bring such real life issues into it and have me rethinking things in my own life.
I loved this book and highly recommend it. It is just so unexpected, well written and researched that I immediately hooked. I cannot wait to read more books from Kira (she has published one other book that I am definitely reading it ASAP!) and will be reading anything and everything she publishes in the future. This is also that kind of book I know I will reread again, which is a sign of just how much I LOVED it!
