I have been here in the Front Range of Colorado most of my life and had no idea that Denver owned so many mountain parks. Red Rocks, Genesee, Winter Park, the lake in Evergreen. . . .where have I been ? I haven't been paying any attention.
Beautiful pictures of then and now. As for the text of the book - well, I'll admit I skimmed some sections. The authors go through the history of Denver mountain parks and what stood out most was the lack of funding in recent years. Money originally earmarked for these parks was pulled back. They haven't deemed them as important in today's day and age. There was even talk of selling them off for development - horrors! - thank goodness the charter forbids it.
There has been progress in recent years and they've been able to repair and restore some structures that had been vandalized and just decrepit from their age.
Recommended for anyone in the Denver area who loves history and who loves these parks.
