"Stephen Leeds, AKA "Legion," is a man whose unique mental condition allows him to generate a multitude of personae: hallucinatory entities with a wide variety of personal characteristics and a vast array of highly specialized skills. As the new story begins, Leeds and his "aspects" are hired by I3 (Innovative Information Incorporated) to recover a corpse stolen from the local morgue. But there's a catch. The corpse is that of a pioneer in the field of experimental biotechnology, a man whose work concerned the use of the human body as a massive storage device. He may have embedded something in the cells of his now dead body. And that something might be dangerous" --… (mer)

Not quite as good as the first but still well worth the read. This series exists in a sort of netherworld between fantasy and psi-ence fiction. I love reading stuff that is not like other things and while it is true there is nothing new under the sun, some stuff is less stale than other stuff.

Also very impressed that the author can handle a short novel with such deftness. I like the longer stuff- although truth be told, I sort of feel it's overlong, so it is a pleasant surprise to be able to gobble an entire book down along with my lunch. Very satisfying and I hope to see more. ( )

Epic! Intriguing! I want more!

If you loved the first Legion book, you'll love this one as well, maybe even more. Brandon Sanderson is a master at writing mysteries, and always provides a satisfying ending. In Legion: Skin Deep, you meet even more aspects and delve even deeper into the mystery of the main character's "schizophrenia"; however, you are also given a suspenseful mystery to solve that will have you hooked.
Twists and turns and surprises are plentiful! You won't be disappointed. ( )

Smart and whimsical

The second entry in the Legion Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson is a longer, better built sequel than the original Legion. Stephen Leeds continues his life as a private investigator with the help of his many aspects but this time we deal a bit more with his personal life. Most interesting is the concept of the White Room and how Leed’s capabilities keep evolving. Sanderson’s own religiousness keep permeating in this series but in much less degree and do add some interesting plot points. My new favorite quote: “I am infinite Batmans” ( )

I'm of two minds on this one. It's an average mystery with a crazy premise. In that regard, it is just like the first novel. The main difference was that this one was rather full of extremely light philosophy disguised as deep revelation.

Being a short novel, I'd expect a long list of throwaway characters for the detective to explore and discard, but those were rather light. What we do get is a long list of imaginary friends who make his life interesting, almost overwhelming the actual mystery.

If the mystery had been stronger, or at least as interesting as his complications, then I might have given this four stars. Perhaps I would like this series a lot more if Mr. Sanderson comes out with dozens of these to built a really significant corpus... but I'll be honest with you: I'd much rather see him continue his epic fantasy series or even a few of the other YA series. If he could live forever and pump out books as quickly as he has been, then I doubt I'd ever have this complaint.

Otherwise, the premise here is a little gimmicky and the psychology is a little lax. It doesn't ruin the read, because, after all, we need conflict and pacing, and Mr. Sanderson doesn't let the novel slide.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favourite. ( )

Entertaining , but I didn't like the ending with how he dealt with Zen and also Stephen got a new aspect of a husband of a current aspect and was shocked to see the Husband but we never went back to deal with with this new situation apart from that it was a good read. Will be reading the next one ( )
