This poetry book is a book that consists of many different poems. I really liked this book because after every poem there is an explanation of why what happened in the poem happened, and also a vocabulary list of some words. I would highly recommend this book to ELAR teachers for their poetry units! ( )

The poem Winter Bees is the best one in this collection of lovely poems. The illustrations are inviting and cozy. ( )

A book of nature poems with educational facts about the animal or part of nature the poem is about. Beautiful and educational.

I did not like this book as much. This is not my reading style, especially for reading to children. I do like how on every page there is a paragraph of facts about the animals each poem is about. For children this is great because they can learn something. The pictures as well are very vivid and go along with each poem. But, I do not like poems that much that are this short, especially because they do not all go together in this book except for the theme. The message of this book is to appreciate nature for how it is. ( )

This book was beautiful. First, I enjoyed the language used in this book. Most of the language used was extremely descriptive. For example, in the poem “Snowflake Wakes,” some words used to describe snowflakes and their motion are “whirling,” “tickling,” and “dizzy cloud.” This creates a great amount of imagery and personification that the illustrations also provide a visual for. In the poem “Dream of the Tundra Swan,” the author also uses personified and descriptive terms such as “cold came creeping” and “earth curved beneath us.” The reader almost doesn't need to illustrations with how descriptive it was.
The writing style also stood out. The poems were all uniquely styled, and yet they all flowed. They could be a short eight lines that all rhyme like in “What Do the Trees Know?” using words such as “blow,” “slow,” and “go.” They could also be in stanza form such as the poem “Snake’s Lullaby,” using two line stanzas that each use a rhyming word at the end like “gold” and “cold” or “stones” and “bones.”
The overall message was to inform the public about animals and nature during the colder seasons, but doing so in a poetic fashion. Each page also contained a factual blurb about the animal or element of nature the poem was about. ( )
