When the desirable Thatcher Smith, owner of Nantucket's hottest restaurant, is the only one to offer her a job, she wonders if she can get by with no restaurant experience. Thatcher gives Adrienne a crash course in the business...and they share an instant attraction. But thereis a mystery about their situation: what is it about Fiona, the Blue Bistro's chef, that captures Thatcher's attention again and again? And why does such a successful restaurant seem to be in its final season before closing its doors for good? Lightweight "love" story set around a restaurant. ( )

Adrienne's mother died when she was very young. Ever since, she's been floating from one place to another, never settling down.

After her most recent move, she finds herself in Nantucket and looking for a job. Fate leads her to The Blue Bistro. The Blue Bistro is the most amazing restaurant in the area and it has an almost magical effect on it's clients.
The descriptions of the food are detailed and I wish I could have eaten most of them. Any time I read this before a meal, it always made me hungry.

That's the lighter portion of the book. The heavier portion of the story is about Adrienne, Thatcher and Fiona. Thatcher is a co-owner of the restaurant along with Fiona. It doesn't take long for Adrienne and Thatcher to become interested in each other. But Thatcher and Fiona are so close that it could actually ruin Adrienne's relationship. Thatcher and Fiona are just friends, and only ever have been, but there's a closeness to their relationship that no one can overlook.

I found myself crying during the last few pages of this book. Then I felt it ended too suddenly. I definitely enjoyed it, but despite being fully aware of how long the book was, I still felt it snuck up on me. ( )

This is the first novel I read by this author, and probably the last. I really enjoyed the character descriptions of this book, as well as the insider view to working in a fine restaurant. The ending totally screwed up this book for me. (Spoiler alert!) I kept waiting for things to turn around, for the restaurant to stay open instead of turning into some rich person's pleasure dome, and for Adrienne to end up with Thatcher. I simply could not believe the way it ended. I understand sacrificing oneself for one's friends, but Thatcher should at least have been man enough to tell Adrienne what was going on with Fiona and the probable outcome of their relationship. What a jerk! What a schmaltzy finale. So sorry it ended as it did, such a depressing and unrealistic, unfulfilled ending. Boo, hiss! ( )
