Fiction. Literature. Mystery. HTML:

A "delightful" mystery that spans from Pennsylvania's Amish country to New Orleans's French Quarter (Publishers Weekly).

When the Amish community of Stone Mill, Pennsylvania, refuses to discuss a murder with the police, it's up to Rachel Mast to bridge the cultural gap and stop a killer from striking again. . .
While swimming in a local quarry, Rachel and her cousin Mary Aaron discover the body of an Amish girl, fully clothed in her white bonnet, floating face down in the water. The drowned young woman, Beth Glick, had left Stone Mill and her Old Order Amish life a year ago, causing her to be shunned by her family and her people.
But if Beth had joined the English world, why was she found dressed in Amish clothing and strangled? Rachel's boyfriend, police detective Evan Park, is getting nowhere with questioning Beth's family. He's also troubled over the fate of three other Amish girls who left Stone Mill in the last two years. As someone who gave up the Plain lifestyle herself, then returned to operate a B&B, Rachel is able to use her ties to the community to learn more about the missing girls. But when her search eventually leads to the dark underbelly of the secular world, Rachel finds her own life in dire jeopardy. . .
"An exciting tale of mystery, love, and danger that will have readers turning the pages like crazy, wondering what the next big secret to be revealed will be and how Rachel will handle it."â??Booklist… (mer)

Nice development in the characters. Would like to live with their surety. Good mystery ( )

This book is one of my favorite mysteries and my favorite Amish fiction in one. I like the main character Rachel, and think it could have been written in first person as she is in all the scenes. Unfortunately, I didn't read the first book first, but will read it next. ( )

Heart pounding and lots of action suspense that leads to more than Amish Country. What a tale Emma Miller has woven, even the cover of the book drew me in.
Who would think an innocent group of one former Amish woman and several young Amish girls would lead to a murder? This is what Rachael Mast, who has become English, but living in the Amish world finds, along with her cousin Mary Aaron, and several other girls find a body floating in the cool quarry water.
This is the first book in this series that I have personally read, but there is mention of the first, with enough facts that I didn’t get lost. Rachael’s boyfriend is a police detective, and that causes more problems in the Amish culture. Was surprised how willing her families Bishop was to help, he really was there for the people. We even get to visit a prison a few times and spend time with George that is explained. He is also the one who drops a mind-shattering bombshell. Wow!! Never in my wildest dreams!
Come along and enjoy this different type of Amish story, you will not be disappointed, and you will be coming back for more.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )
