This is useful when you're trying to find a concise summary of, for example, the life of Jacob when you have lost track of some of the twists and turns described in Genesis. The entries are straightforward and unbiased, but it would be better if the book were a few hundred pages longer, so that the entries could be a bit more detailed. ( )

Explains basic Biblical terms, gives concise biographies of important characters, provides brief histories of countries and events in a Biblical context. Gives analyses of doctrinal concepts such as the Trinity, predestination, inspiration and inerrancy. Contains synopses of important books, including the Apocrypha. Discusses in a non-judgmental manner some of the offshoots of mainstream Christianity such as Christian Science and Mormonism. And far more.
