A very digressive, unsystematic and blurred attempt to describe some traits of french thinking that could easily apply to any other nation --for instance, love of science or interest in politics. No historical narrative or context is seriously presented. ( ) Excellent essai, will hopefully help the French to be less narcissic, and better understand how they are percieved abroad. One concern though: Dr. Hazareesingh is focusing on French political and cultural history since the revolution, hence he do not take into account the overwhelming importance of the French Royal tradition in explaining both Napoleon and post revolutionary France. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

WINNER OF THE GRAND PRIX DU LIVRE D'IDÉES The French: serious and frivolous, charming and infuriating, rational and mystical, pessimistic, pleasure-loving - and perhaps more than any other people, intellectual. This original and entertaining book shows exactly what makes the French so ... French. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
