The language in the book is well written and easy to follow. For example, “when it rained, he kept the castle dry.” There are not too many sentences on a page so it keeps the reader engaged. The illustrations are fun and fit the written text. For example, when john gets home with the money for his mother, the texts says “by this time Mrs. Giant was very, very hungry. She was glad to see john and his bag of gold coming through the door.” In the illustration, she is sitting at the table about to eat her shoe and the food cabinet is empty with cobwebs in it. Although there is not a clear message in this book, I think the main message is to always keep a positive attitude, even when things go wrong they can always be fixed. Although there was no clear message, in my opinion this is a good book for children. I liked this book because the language and writing were clear and easy to follow. Also, the illustrations throughout the book were detailed and creative. For example, the illustrations showed how large Giant John was compared to the castle. The book could have been even better if there were an obvious moral for children to learn. I have mixed feelings about this book. I have loved this book ever since I was a child, and was read to from it frequently. The story tells of a sweet giant who goes to look for work when his mother and him are starving. He finds a castle and takes care of it, befriending the royal family. In an accident, he destroys th4e castle but rebuilds it with patience and love. I love the fantasy aspect of the story, with fairies and giants. The story has some words such as "rubbers" (boots) that are a little different, and I consider this a positive. The story is in third person, as most picture books are. There is a sad event, where the giant accidentally destroys a castle, but not real conflict or drama. The mood is not positive overall but fairly somber. The negative aspects of this book are that it is not particularly exciting and does not have much moral lesson. The star of this story, the adorable giant John, is so lovable that I can not help disliking this book. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Hired to perform odd jobs at the royal castle, Giant John's work pleases everyone until the musical fairies arrive and the friendly giant cannot resist the urge to dance. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
