I can relate to the main character because I, too, enjoy my alone time. The illustrations in this book are very different from most of Henkes's illustrations. The colors are darker than usual, and the lines are less controlled. This book, in my opinion, teaches children that it's okay to be alone sometimes. Reflection and introspection are important. I think that this book also conveys that people shouldn't spend all of their time alone because isolation can be a dangerous thing. I come to this conclusion by looking at the way the main character says that he wonders what his friends are doing and by looking at the way the main character says that he likes to be alone only sometimes and only for just a while. ( ) I found this book very interesting. I was amazed by the message this book could send with so few words. This book taught me about self empowerment and being secure in who you are. There are things that we all do that we would not do around others, like questions or thoughts we have. This book was relatable and engaging. I don't see any character development in this book. Throughout the book his mood remains the same as he talks about what he does when he is alone and what he is feeling. I think the character is trying to get other kids, who feel alone, to relate. He portrays loneliness to be an enjoyable feeling, instead of negative. Sometimes being alone isn't always a bad thing. When you are alone, you can hear everything around you that you normally would not be able to hear. Kevin Henkes tells a great story of a little boy who enjoys being alone and notices the world around him. Henkes does not make it sad, but rather a peaceful story about being alone. This is the first picture book written by Kevin Henkes, and it was first published in 1981. This book describes a little boy that wants to be all alone. Sometimes, when we are alone, it's the best place to be. We get to think about things that we may never think about if we had company. My favorite page in this book is when he writes, "When I'm alone, I look at myself inside and out. No one looks just like me or thinks just like I do." Each and every person is unique in some type of way. Sometimes being alone can help us figure out who we are. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
