 Marianne Fredriksson erzählt von der gegenseitigen Annäherung zweier völlig unterschiedlicher Frauen. Der Leser wartet gespannt auf den Moment, in dem sich eine feste Freundschaft entwickelt. Es ist faszinierend, wie die Autorin den Sinn von Familie, Freundschaft und Kommunikation durch Gefühle transportiert. Und doch gibt es etliche Passagen, denen etwas fehlt: Unter anderem erfahren wir so gut wie nichts über die Rolle der Ehemänner, die hauptsächlich negativ dargestellt werden, ohne dass wir einen Einblick in ihre Sichtweise der Geschehnisse bekommen. Darüber hinaus scheint es so, dass einige Personen in diesem Roman zu problembelastet sind und andere wiederum nicht.
