I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

This is quite a comprehensive book. The author is a registered dietitian. She has provided an extensive look at the different diets out in the world. Some of them I had never heard of before. Some made me cringe. I was a little saddened to learn that she placed the paleo diet into the “fad” category. I started a paleo diet approximately two years ago and not only did I finally begin to lose weight, but a lot of my health issues went away. I am no longer pre-diabetic, no longer have a heart issue. My thyroid meds have been cut in half. I no longer have acid reflux. I believe the main message from this book is that you don’t need to just jump on the bandwagon. Do your research. Make sure you are eating healthy. I’ve seen many people follow every diet out there because a friend or a celebrity personality lost so much weight. Be informed. This rather lengthy book will help you do just that. ( )

Cotton ball diet? Really?

There are lots of (crazy) fad diets out there and it's easy to get caught up in them when you want to shed those unwanted pounds, but the reality is that you have to eat right and exercise.

The author does a good job of listing healthy foods and portions and how many calories we can burn during certain activities. She gives us tips on how to start our journey as well as websites that may help.

It's a good book to have around the house.

I won a copy through Goodreads First Reads. ( )

I have never been a fan of diets. Only because I don't have the discipline to stick with one. Also, I don't want to be tied down to counting calories or being told what to eat. So why do you say would I want to read this book? Well because I already have the exercise part checked but the eating healthy part is a little struggle.

Wow, I did not know there were so many different diets currently circulating around the globe. Some I had heard of before like Atkins, South Beach, Paleo, and Zone. I liked the way that Lisa broke down each diet and how they are unhealthy in one form or another. Which as I was reading this book I appreciated that Lisa talked at my level and not above me. However I do have to admit that there are parts where I could skim this book and still not feel like I missed anything. I did not feel like I took that much more knowledge from this book then what I have already read from the internet. Overall, this was a good read. ( )

Hands down the most informative, non-pushy, non-judgmental, non-preachy guide to losing weight and being healthy. Author and registered dietitian, Lisa Tillinger Johansen breaks down popular and fad diets and tells the readers the good (and mainly bad) aspects of each. She also breaks down healthier ways to eat; looking at labels, portion control, the difference between veggies, the science behind calories and protein, and the pros of drinking water. It's an easily understood, no nonsense guide that will help readers decide what will work best for them based on their health, dietary restrictions and will power. A quick read that will do a world of good for anyone looking to shed a few pounds (and keep them off) rather than trying expensive fad diets.

I received this book for free from iRead book tours in return for my honest, unbiased opinion. ( )

Recensionen skriven för LibraryThing Member Giveaways.
A good book at telling which diets could work and which won't. Basically common sense is needed. I didn't find much new information that can't be found in other diet books but still an interesting read. I received this from LibraryThing Member Giveaway for an honest review. ( )
