"The first volume of a new series of books by Herbert O. Chambers, III containing biographies of South Carolinians who died serving the Confederate States of America. In addition to previously known South Carolina Civil War dead, this volume contains the names of approximately 562 South Carolina soldiers who died in the South Carolina artillery service but have never been listed before in any previous attempts to identify South Carolina's war dead. These additional soldiers do not appear in Broken Fortunes, the previous "bible" of South Carolina's war dead. And Were the Glory of Their Times -- Artillery is a comprehensive work including the names and stories of all the previously known soldiers as well as the new names. Herbert Chambers has researched extensively the South Carolina soldiers lost in the struggle for Southern independence. This series begins with the South Carolina Artillery and will be followed by the South Carolina Cavalry and finish with the South Carolina Infantry men who lost their lives during the Civil War. Combined sources of military service records, census records and family histories provide detailed information on these men."--Http://www.broadfootpublishing.com/home.html.… (mer)
