“Gruff & tough” meets “fun-loving & geeky” in this hilarious story about two neighbors who couldn’t be more different if they tried. Spencer has a crush on Quinn from their first encounter in the elevator, Quinn is not sure he has ever met Spencer before. Spencer has a “tiny yellow Fiat gleaming in the sunshine”, Quinn calls it a Skittle. Then Quinn and Spencer literally crash into each other when Quinn comes to pick up his prescription that a friend left with Spencer, and the real fun begins. Misunderstandings, disasters, and mishaps aside, this love story is as entertaining as it is sweet, and I loved every minute of following Spencer and Quinn’s adventure.

Quinn, who is a Miami SWAT officer of Cuban descent, had my sympathies when he selflessly saved a little boy from being shot by taking the bullets himself and ending up in the hospital and rehab. Not a place a macho man of his manly caliber wants to be seen near, so he is grumpy to start with. When Spencer accidentally falls on him, then douses him with cold water (which he was trying to offer as a refreshment), Quinn beats a hasty retreat. But he soon learns that Spencer is not one to give up easily.

Spencer, a web designer with pale skin that tends to burn when exposed to sunlight, had me at the description of the brownies he bakes for Quinn: “Nutella caramel brownies with nuts, made from scratch. These are orgasm-in-your-mouth brownies.” Yum! Spencer is one of those guys who start out clumsy , and become a downright menace when they get excited or nervous. But he is determined to get Quinn to notice him, maybe more, so he pulls out all the stops to get closer. It’s a good thing Spencer is stubborn, because Quinn proves to be a very hard nut to crack.

If you like stories about polar opposites figuring out that they belong together, if you want to find out more about two men who are looking for love, yet can’t believe whom they find, and if you’re looking for a read that is as funny and entertaining as it is sweet and wonderful, then you will probably like this novella as much as I did. I won’t forget Spencer and Quinn anytime soon and might just pull out this book when I need cheering up!

When Quinn gets shot on the job (SWAT), he's stuck at home, and Spence finally sees an opening with his neighbor (who's also his crush). Spence offers his company and help. Quinn is grumpy, and Spence is sort of quirky and bumbling. Things go from there.

The story is filled with humor, family, great food and friends, along with oh-no-he-didn't and aww moments. I had a splendid time reading it.
