Patterson, in my opinion, isn't a great author but he is a superb story-teller. His books are mind candy and, to me, totally addictive. Have not found one of his books I ever regretted reading or did not ultimately enjoy even though a couple of the Alex Cross novels got a little tedious. If someone is looking for an enjoyable to read they can't miss with Patterson. ( ) can44okie | Aug 28, 2020 | This wasn't a bad book by any means, but was unremarkable. The mystery was okay, but it was clear this book was less about the mystery and more about the personal relationships. Very minor spoiler: Not sure this is a real spoiler, but one could make assumptions on the story, but this was a good tweener-book to set up future books. This case is trying to solve the mystery of a jewelry theft that left a Hollywood star dead. Turns out the theft wasn’t supposed to end in murder but there was something wrong with the case. And to add to the workload for Zach and Kylie they are having to bust a theft ring hitting hospitals of high quality equipment. The second case they need to work quietly and the murder case has to be solved ASAP. To add some tension to the duo Kylie’s husband is missing from rehab and she is trying everything she can to find him. This puts pressure on Zach and Cheryl’s relationship as well.
