David Sandum appeared to have it all: a beautiful young family and a promising career ahead as a business consultant. But his life started veering off course, and upon returning to his native Scandinavia, he fell into an inexplicable, deep depression. 'I'll Run Till the Sun Goes Down'is a searingly honest account of David's struggle to overcome his crippling mental illness. After years of hopeless despair, bleak hospitalizations, and shattered dreams, he is finally saved by his art. The paintbrush becomes his lifeline. Richly illustrated with the work of the artists who have inspired him as well as samples of his own drawings and paintings, this memoir offers both a compelling read and a visual story of David's courageous battle with depression.… (mer)

An extremely powerful and enlightening memoir in which the author shares his life altering struggles with bipolar depression that compels him to commit himself to turn to art through which he expresses his struggles and perceptions of his world. There are several spots in the text where I feel the text dragged a bit, but this is easy to overlook given the power of his revelations and eventual acceptance and understanding of his disease. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of photos of well-known artists' works as well as Sandum's to illustrate his emergence as an artist. In conclusion, this memoir is a valuable text to read as a tool for better understanding depression and changing the all-to-common "Just get over it" attitudes that cloud the true face of mental illness ( )

Definitely an enlightening book. I haven't read many books about depression but I feel this was particularly interesting. I really would recommend it to anyone who is struggling with depression or the similar. ( )
