( ) Mostly kept me entertained. Not really a fan of mob books. More of an anti fan actually but they were mobsters light, so okay. The hero was supposed to be socially inept. I thought at first it was aspergers but I think it was a response to his childhood trauma. Whatever, it was it was only apparent intermittently so that was disappointing. And the heroine was just too naive. She's been on the streets for 7 years since she was 17. Come on, in all that time you couldn't finagle your way into some job? I know people live on the streets for years but this heroine was written as beautiful and smart, no drug or mental problems. So really she just came across as lame. I like my heroines to have a bit more gumption than that. So the story started off with a bang but just fizzled out into everyone loving everyone. Pretty much every situation that could have led to interesting conflict was quickly wrapped up with a pretty bow, conflict avoided. Forced myself to finish. "The first item on my list: Find food." Mina is desperate. Living on the streets she knows better than anyone how you will be willing to do anything for comfort. Along comes an unlikely Prince Charming in the form of Lev, muscle for a gentleman's club that may not all be upstanding citizen. Mina gets caught by Lev trying to survive and for the first time possibly feels some sort of empathy for another human. Ms Aurora takes us into a not so pretty world of underground mafia dealings and gives us a glimpse on how they are 'people too'. I love a strong female lead. With Mina, Belle Aurora does not disappoint. She may be desperate for something to eat and a place to rest but she's definitely not a pushover. Lev is the strong silent type. Defined by honor yet detached from emotion. Yet, his interactions with his daughter, family and Mina give cause to think that he feels a lot more than is given credit for. Those feelings that Lev has, I wish we could have gotten more into his head and had better understanding of his thoughts. If you love strong alpha male types who are really Prince Charming in disguise, this story is for you. This is the first in the series and can standalone. Solid 4 out of 5 stars. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

From the moment Lev Leokov spots the young woman hiding behind her hair in the middle of the gentleman's club, he can't take his eyes off of her. For the very first time in his life, he is affected. Having been told his entire life that he can't process or understand emotion, he considers it a big deal. When Mina Harris gets caught red-handed with a wallet that isn't hers, she falls apart. She's tired, lonely, and hasn't eaten in days. Lev offers her an ultimatum...a nice warm bed, a hot meal, and a job, or the cops. Mina takes her chances with Lev.
