The riveting conclusion to Rowan's powerful story explores the power of friendship, love, and the belief in oneself. Rowan Slone is settling into her first semester at college. On her own for the first time, she's enjoying her work at the animal shelter, and she's finally feeling in control of her life. But the past is back. When her old boyfriend texts out of nowhere, Rowan starts to feel that familiar fear that her life is about to be turned upside down-and not in a good way. Her mother's new psychiatrist wants Rowan involved in her therapy even though Rowan wants nothing to do with her. When tensions begin to arise between her and best friend, Jess, who is struggling being a new mother, Rowan becomes confused and angry at her friend who is leaving her to pick up the childcare slack. It's time for Rowan to finally deal with her past. Will soul-searching help her achieve that elusive sense of peace and family she's always craved or will the pain of the past prove too great?… (mer)

This was a really good read, very emotional and engaging. This was also a page turner, I read it in one night, I could not put it down. There was an emotional roller coaster happening here. I liked how after everything that happened to Rowan she was able to let it go and make a life for herself. The characters felt real and this story was well written. I would recommend this book to all. I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own. ( )

I was able to read the first book through Early Reviewers and was pleased to get the second book to read also.

If anything, I liked the second book better than the first! Sometimes the explaining of things got repetitive but over al the pace was good. And the character growth worked for me. The main character's arc made sense.

My only issues are: The character of the sister is flirting with being a caricature. And the best friend character could be better fleshed out now.

But overall, this is a really good read. I look forward to the next book. ( )

I received this book from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review. As a side note, I didn't realize until after I won the book that it was the third book in a trilogy. I was worried that I would have a hard time following along since I hadn't read the previous books. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I had no trouble at all catching up on the backstory, as the author made sure to include reminders of the major details from the previous books. Rowan is a likable character, and in many ways, her thought processes and circumstances reminded me a lot of myself. It's not often that I find myself reading from the perspective of a character who is thinking the same things I would and responding the same way I would. It made it fascinating to me. I read the book in just a couple sittings because I couldn't put it down. The plot was all over the place in a way that kept me engaged. Right when I thought nothing could get worse, it did (kinda like life sometimes!). I like how the story resolved itself and it seems like a good end to the trilogy. Honestly, I was really impressed with this book. This is a book I will likely find myself coming back to when I need a good read. ( )

A Life, Freed, the third book of Tracy Hewitt Meyer's Rowan Slone book series, is a deeply-felt story about Rowan Slone, a freshman college student, who has just started her new life after struggling through her grim past. Little does she know, the new chapter of her life will be brimming with new challenges that strain her studies and her relationship with her family, best friend, and new boyfriend.

The novel is well-written and easy to read. The heavy themes of betrayal, doubt, suffering, family drama, and postpartum depression left despair in my heart. Even so, the unfortunate events that Rowan experienced bring forth her strengths-- resilience, compassion, and determination-- making her more relatable. There are parts that, for me, are rushed especially some of the events toward the ending but as a whole, I appreciate the story. Rowan Slone is a reminder that despite the trials we face in life, with hope and perseverance, life will become better eventually.

Thank you BHC Press and LibraryThing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. ( )
