Weeks have passed since Mal defeated her mother, Maleficent (now a tiny lizard), and everything seems peaceful for her and her friends. However, there have been some weird weather patterns happening throughout the United States of Auradon that cannot be explained, and there have been some mysterious attacks in a nearby kingdom.

Then, there are the messages.

Mal and her friends each receive a message telling them to return to the Isle of the Lost before Saturday night. They have no idea who sent them this message or why they want them to return, but after some hacking Carlos is able to find out that there is going to be a meeting of the Anti-Heroes club the night they were told to return to the Isle. Going against their better judgement, the four former villains decide to travel to the Isle to find out what this club might be plotting and to stop them before they disrupt the peace in Auradon.

To my surprise, I did not enjoy this book as much as its predecessor, The Isle of the Lost. Part of this is due to the fact that the villain kids are lacking the edge they had in the first book and the beginning of the Descendants movie. I get that they chose good in the movie, but it seems as though their transformation to good was too drastic in such a short time. Yes, Mal and Jay had a few moments where their bad side showed, but they were still much more tame than the first book.

Aside from that the plot was interesting, since it book took some turns that I wasn’t expecting and it kept me on my toes as I waited for certain events to either happen or not happen. It was similar to the first book where each of the kids had their own battle to face on the Isle, only this had more of a focus on the new friendship the four now share.

There were some new characters who made small appearances that I liked, including Genie’s daughter, Jordan, and a few more of the villain kids that our old VK’s encounter on their trip home.

I’m still on the fence whether I like this one more than the first book or not, but I do know that I prefer the movies because, well, the music guys… come on. Still, I treat the Descendants books and movies differently because it’s not necessarily a book made into a movie or vice versa. ( )

In a prologue, the reader learns that Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos, the children of Maleficent, Snow White’s Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil, have been sent to the kingdom of Auradon to learn how to be good. They are happy in school making friends, joining clubs and playing sports when they start to receive strange messages telling them to return to the Isle of the Lost. They suspect their horrible parents are behind the messages, so the four kids decide that they have to return to figure out what's going on.

I love how much the main four characters have evolved from troublemakers to good kids and how they use their talents to fight evil. Each one of these characters has their own unique personality. It's also nice to see the kids of other famous Disney characters have some exposure, and it hints at big things for future adventures.

I thought it was a cute book filled with action and totally appropriate for pre-teens or any Disney fan. ( )

This is the one where they chase their parent's McGuffin's. Again, some bits with huge promise (like the club of children on the Isle of the Lost only pretending to be against them, and secretly being in favour of Heros, and the whole 'maybe Mal's mother is escaping and attacking people' plot was great, until the weak ending) but sigh, I have no interest in Ben and his committee meetings and border squabbles. I expected better out of the sophomore effort. This is too much like the last one, maybe even a little worse because of that. The first third is spend tooling around the school, doing NOTHING. It's even more cutesy than the Wicked World shorts, and spends too much time dwelling on things the audience already knows (no one is going to read a Descendants novel without knowing the Descendants universe). Then another third tooling around the isle. And the last third is the SAME four quests, one for each character.

It doesn't even expand new characters. The deus ex magicka is overplayed. There are plot threads that were super out-of-character (if they don't drop away into irrelevancy/forgetfulness), like Yen Sid being a Dumbledore wizard instead of a Samuel L. Jackson don't-fuck-with-my-hat motherfucker. The "twist" is viewable from a mile away. I have a bad feeling I won't be able to complete the third one. ( )

I would recommend this book because it is very adventurous and each chapter would leave you with a cliff hanger, making you want to keep on reading. It was also mysterious and made my stomach get butterflies in it.

The four villainous kids were named Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay. They were the children of Maleficent, Evil Queen, Cruella DeVille, and Jafar. Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay went back to the Isle of the Lost because they got mysterious text messages mentioning something about each of their parents. So when the kids got to the Isle of the Lost the went to each of their childhood homes to see if their parents were there. When none of their parents were there. They went in search oaf them, checking all over the island. Also when they got the text messages they each said something about an Anti-Heroes club. So they went on the internet and found their website and saw that they met every night at midnight. So as well as looking for their parents they had to look around to try and find where they Anti-Heroes meetings were held. When they finally found where the meetings were held there was still no sign of their parents anywhere. Nevertheless they went to the meeting. Once they got to the meeting room and opened the door, Mal had a feeling they were being surrounded. So she told her friends to retreat but it was to late and the light came on.n When the light came on Mal was surprised to see everybody in the room smiling. What the group had thought was going to be a surprise attack was actually a welcome home party with all their "friends" from the island. It turned out that the "Anti-Heroes" club was actually a club supporting the good kids not going against them. After all the "fun" was done their old professor had them sit down at the desks. He then started to talk to them about the catacombs. He said that he believed that Evie, Carlos, and Jay's parents were down there looking for each of their talismans. After the professor was done talking to the group of kids everyone split up into groups to go and look for the entrance to the catacombs. Once the catacombs entrance was found Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay went down the entrance way. When they got down into the catacombs they went off to start looking for the first talisman. First up was Evie's, then was Jay's, next was Carlos', and finally was Mal's. At every spot the group was only able to go so far until it was one of the four friends talisman. Once everyone had their talisman they had to find a way out. When they found the exit and walking out they started hearing noises coming from behind them. Then out from the shadows came Prince Ben son of Bell and The Beast. Ben was with a few other people following the tracks of a beast that had been shapeshifting and been ruining towns. Once the group of friends was done talking to Ben and his group there was a puff of purple smoke and out came a witch from the Isle of the Lost. After Ben and the people he was with had defeated the witch on of the men Ben was with sent everyone back to where they came from. Once back at Auradon Prep Evie, using her magic mirror, checked to see where their parents were. Evil Queen, Cruella DeVille, and Jafar were back on the island. Ben suggested the idea that the villains might have been following them toward the exit of the catacombs and when Merlin sent everyone back to where they came from it even sent the villains back to the island. Once upon a time, after all the happily-ever-afters, when all the fairy tales were supposed to have ended, came a new beginning when the teenaged children of the most evil villains in the land were sent from the remote Isle of the Lost to the majestic kingdom of Auradon.
