Great start, the last 3/4 not so much. Had a lot of potential and then stopped Working right. I did not like this that much. Lol. I feel like it needed more something. It makes sense why the narration would be disjointed, unreliable narrator and all (for what is a thriller without an unreliable narrator), but it feels a bit too disjointed at times. I just really didn't like the ending, and it should have been more thrilling than it was. See, that's usually my problem with psychological thrillers. They're fun, and exciting, and they fall flat at the end. This one? It wasn't even particularly exciting. Maybe it was too short for that. Maybe they were trying to make Jake seem too smart and philosophical for that. Or, maybe all that fake deep talk was because the author wanted to do his best at mimicking real conversation with his dialogue. Maybe some people will like the dialogue- it just felt so disingenuous to me. Scenes on the farmhouse were really creepy. Very good. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

HTML:Now a Netflix original movie, this deeply scary and intensely unnerving novel follows a couple in the midst of a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease. You will be scared. But you won't know why... I'm thinking of ending things. Once this thought arrives, it stays. It sticks. It lingers. It's always there. Always. Jake once said, "Sometimes a thought is closer to truth, to reality, than an action. You can say anything, you can do anything, but you can't fake a thought." And here's what I'm thinking: I don't want to be here. In this smart and intense literary suspense novel, Iain Reid explores the depths of the human psyche, questioning consciousness, free will, the value of relationships, fear, and the limitations of solitude. Reminiscent of Jose Saramago's early work, Michel Faber's cult classic Under the Skin, and Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk about Kevin, "your dread and unease will mount with every passing page" (Entertainment Weekly) of this edgy, haunting debut. Tense, gripping, and atmospheric, I'm Thinking of Ending Things pulls you in from the very first page...and never lets you go. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |

I liked this story despite how short it was. There was never a dull moment and it kept you thinking about what would happen next. It is not a murder mystery but more of a character mystery which I thought was unique. The ending was a surprise but if you read it carefully enough you can see it coming.
I actually didn’t like how short the book was. I think there was a lot of missed opportunity to dig deeper and have a more developed story line before revealing the ending the way they did.
I will plan on watching the Netflix movie, I can tell from the trailer that they added things most likely to make it long enough for film…
