A humorous yet substantive introduction to the world's religions and their concepts Explaining the five major religions and modern spirituality in clear, colorful chapters, this illustrated primer is a great way to introduce a complex topic. In her easily accessible style, Margreet de Heer explores religious history and practices in an unbiased way and with a dash of humor, and makes it approachable for those with little knowledge of the subject. It offers a fresh look from different perspectives on the phenomenon of religion; the backgrounds and history of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism; and makes the point that religion is something that should unite us, not drive us apart.… (mer)

[a:Margreet de Heer|744606|Margreet de Heer|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1345254782p2/744606.jpg] is one talented cartoonist: in the form of a comic book, she discusses the five main religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism), adding her personal opinion of course.

Describing the story of a religion can be a sensitive subject as it's quite easy to offend people. The artist herself, acknowledges that she has to walk "on eggshells" trying to do this. The cartoons were nicely done, the end result being both cute and funny.
Overall, I liked the way this was presented and I found it quite informative as well.

This is a brief overview of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, with dashes of atheism and agnosticism thrown in. The information is presented as a journey of discovery for Margreet, who has grown up in the Dutch Reformed Church and wants to learn about other religions. It's presented well, and I liked how she introduced areas of potential controversy by drawing herself as walking on eggshells: every time she hit a contentious issue, CRACK went another eggshell.

It's not a very in-depth book but could be a useful starting point for looking up more information and for having conversations with children, perhaps, about the different religions people can follow and how they have more in common than you might think. ( )

This one was just okay. As you know I'm not a huge fan of graphic novels. This was a very quick overview. I did learn a couple of new things which is always good. Not much depth, but this format doesn't invite that. I think it might be good for someone that is confused about differences in religion and hasn't read much on the topic. ( )
