Seemed a little long for the elementary list but it's about 4th graders so.... Fun book set in Texas, they make lots of references to cowboys and country music. Talks about bullying and how rumors are bad. I liked that the main character actually had consequences for her misbehavior and learned from it. Writing was a little forced but overall, pretty decent book. ( )

This chapter book has surprising depth to it. I originally believed it would be a happy-go-lucky story but quickly learned otherwise. I feel like this would be a very relatable story to young girls because many of them have to deal with mean girls and fake friends at some point in their life. This story shows you that you can't just blindly believe all of the rumors and you really need to give everyone a chance because they will probably surprise you. I loved this book, I feel like it really takes readers through a series of emotions in an appropriate way. I would definitely recommend this book and feel like it would most definitely be appropriate for a classroom as well. I loved this book! ( )

This is a really cute book for older readers about the problem of being popular in school. The main character, Maya wants to win tickets to the Fall Festival but gets paired with one of the schools bullies, Connie. With the desperate want to win the tickets and be popular, May breaks a promise and looses one of her best friends. There is great character development in this book and the readers really get to know each character. After being around Connie, Maya find that she is actually not a bad person. ( )

"The Magnificent Mya Tibbs" is a great book for upper elementary school readers. It sends a positive message of spirit and how people should all treat each other with kindness and respect. Mya Tibbs goes to school during one of her favorite weeks of school, spirit week, and a curve ball comes her way; she is paired up with the meanest girl in school Connie Tate. This book demonstrates how she deals with this situation and how she overcomes this obstacle. Highly recommended! ( )

This book is very cute and would be enjoyed by 5th graders. In this story, Mya wants to win Fall Festival tickets but gets paired with a bully in the school. As the book goes on she becomes friends with this bully (Connie). This story helps children to be aware of character development and character traits throughout the story. They could also compare and contrast how Mya felt towards Connie at the beginning of the book verses the end of the book. This could also be used as a motivator for creative writing, as students could write about what they would plan if they were having a spirit week! This story is very relatable to young readers since it is based on actually school events and their age level! ( )
